Pantone Color Institute unveiled its selection for Color of the Year for 2018, and it’s an enchanting choice: a deep purple called Ultra Violet.  Pantone says it chose this color because it conveys “originality and ingenuity," and is a "distinctive and complex purple shade that fascinates and intrigues.”Pantone has described this year’s shade as ‘enigmatic, thoughtful and provocative’ communicating originality, inventiveness and a futuristic vision. “We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imaginationz”, said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute. “It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra-Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come,” he added.

Pantone color picks typically have a huge impact on the fashion, beauty, and interior design decor. It is also the cool color of royalty and weath.  To stay true to the color game, we've rounded up some of our favorite ultra violet-hued picks. For starters, if you really want to stay absolutely true to the color, Pantone created Butter London's Pantone 2018 colored lip gloss, nail colors and eye gloss, appropriately called "Ultra Violet!" And Butter London is not the only brand sporting the ultra violet hue. Instead of reaching for the standard black mascara, why not try out the violet daring shade? Marc Jacobs' Violet Incredible Mascara is a special blend of soft waxes and essential oils that coat lashes in dramatic volume.

We've also included sneakers in our color collection to help you stay active. If your New Year's resolution is to exercise more often, it's always a good idea to treat yourself to some new running shoes to keep you motivated. These sneakers from Brooks will make those daily jogs much more fun!

Last, but certainly not least, we thought it would be fun to infuse the violet color into our morning routine with an Infiniti Pro Compact Hair Dryer ($27).

I admit that I am stepping into unchartered waters with the ultra violet color trend. Maybe easing into it with a new pair of flip-flops or purple-hued earrings is the way to go. After all, I only have one violet colored top in my entire wardrobe.

  1. I don't purple clothing or makeup, but I would like to try the purple mascara. I think it would look pretty over a coat of black mascara.
