BEAUTY REPORT: PIXI LAUNCHES NEW RETINOL AND JASMINE SKINCARE COLLECTION

Hey ladies! I hope you are all doing well. It seems like forever since I've posted on my blog and I really didn't realize how much I miss it. In all these times of uncertainty and distress, I have been busy immersing myself in cooking new dishes, growing herbs & vegetables, sewing, organizing closets, etc. It is strange that I now find solace in what I used to view as dreaded household tasks. Taking care of my family and home has been very therapeutic as I navigate through my new normal.

Several weeks ago, Pixi Beauty sent a beautiful PR package that not only brightened my day, but it also reminded me that I was somewhat neglecting my own self-care. Pre-COVID, I followed a strict skincare regimen. But when the quarantine hit, things changed. Of course, I washed my face and slathered on moisturizer but I wasn't into my skincare routine - I was too stressed. Pixi's package could not have come at a better time. The gift set reminded me that I need to take time a little time for myself.  A skincare ritual should be something you enjoy and do to pamper yourself. It's a time to focus on yourself and reap the mind, body, and beauty benefits. The therapeutic process will help you feel your best and bring a sense of normalcy, especially during these uncertain times.

For those of you who are not familiar with Pixi Beauty, it was founded in London by Petra Strand, a Swedish-born makeup artist with more than 20+ years of experience. This amazing line focuses on natural, botanical-based beauty products that are cruelty-free, come in smart packaging, and are affordably priced. It is no wonder that Pixi has a cult following from skincare experts to celebrities, such as Oprah and Kim Kardashian.

Pixi has created an all-star lineup of products for your skincare routine with their Retinol Jasmine collection. I will admit that I was a little nervous to use products with retinol. Some say it is the Holy Grail of skincare but I have also read that it can have side effects like redness and flaking skin. I'm happy to report that I did not personally experience any side effects with Pixi retinol products. *See my note below.

Let's start with the Pixi Retinol Jasmine Cleanser. This sulfate-free cleanser is a lightweight, creamy moisturizing cleanser enriched with vitamin A (retinol), jasmine oil, and ceramides to renew, smooth, and deeply nourish skin. Use morning and night. Apply a small amount to damp skin and massage for 30 seconds, rinse and pat dry. This cleanser works nicely on my dry skin but could cause problems for oily or sensitive skin due to its creamy and moisturizing formula.

My favorite product of the Pixi Skintreats collection is the Overnite Retinol Oil. ($24) OMG! Ladies, this is a serious game-changer in my skincare routine. I could see and feel a difference in my skin within days of using Pixi Overnite Retinol Oil. It actually looked like I got some sleep. I know it sounds cliche for a blogger to boast a remarkable change in their skin, but weeks into using this product, my skin really does look smoother and brighter!

Pixi Skintreats Overnite Retinol Oil is made for all skin types. I can't speak for oily or combination skin, but if you have dry, mature skin, I would definitely recommend trying this oil. It is a heavy formula that feels greasy upon application, BUT it absorbs into your skin overnight and by morning, it feels smooth and soft without a greasy feeling!

Pixi Retinol Tonic ($18) is a youth-preserving tonic that features a unique time-release Retinol to help rejuvenate the skin for a natural glow. Its powerful antioxidants and botanicals replenish the skin for a smoother, softer appearance while soothing sensitive skin. I use it morning and night and love the fresh, clean feeling.

Pixi Retinol Jasmine Lotion ($24) is a lightly scented antioxidant-rich blackberry, moisturizer with ceramides and nourishing biotin which help to ensure healthier, smoother, firmer, softer skin long-term. The lightweight, milky formula absorbs into the skin leaving it smooth and soft. It also helps create a flawless look when using foundation. I apply the lotion both day and night and have not had any sensitivity issues and please keep in mind that my skin is very dry. This product may be too rich for combination or oily skin. It is slightly overpriced and the label does not say how much retinol it contains.  If I had to make an educated guess, I would say it is a very, very small amount.

Pixi Retinol Eye Cream ($22) is a hydrating cream formulated to improve elasticity, smooth skin, and protect the delicate eye area. Apply around the eye area to restore, renew, and minimize the look of fine lines. The squeeze tube is cleverly designed with a pointed tip to dispense small amounts on your fingertip. A little goes a long way and a very small pea-size amount is more than enough to apply under both eyes. I like the product but find adding the retinol oil up to my cheekbone provides enough moisture to my eye area.

We all know that true beauty is being happy with who you are, but when it comes to taking care of your skin, there are high-quality products that can make you look and feel better and slow down the skin's aging process. Pixi products can be found at their boutique in L.A., Pixi online, Target stores, Target online, and now, ULTA!

Have you ever used retinol products for acne, wrinkles, dark spots, or hyperpigmentation? If so, what was your experience like?

 xoxo,

*NOTE: When introducing your skin to retinol, it is important not to try too much, too soon. That's why Pixi uses low-level retinoids that have advanced formulation to side-step flaking skin or irritation caused by an increase in cell turnover. However, it is essential to wear a good, broad-spectrum SPF (30 or above) when using any retinol, as it may make your skin more photosensitive.
