Style, Decor & More: 6 Simple Ways to Organize Your Makeup

6 Simple Ways to Organize Your Makeup

Before the holidays struck, my makeup drawer was a complete dream. Just picture this: sections dedicated to eyewear, face masks, nail polishes and more. Everything was set in perfect little rows. I’d always make sure to shut the drawer softly so that nothing would topple over one another. It was so easy to get ready because I knew where every single item was placed.

Fast track to now and I got a little carried away. I forgot that during the holidays, many makeup stores release special editions of just about everything (and anything): eyeshadows, lipsticks… the works! My latest obsession has been on contouring. I may have gone haywire and purchased all kinds of contouring tools: from cream to powder palettes, brushes, contour sticks, etc.

That being said, my (somewhat) smaller drawer isn’t as organized as it used to be. I needed to find solutions on how to organize my new products. I’m happy to say that there are many simple, DIY solutions to make sure all of your makeup stays neat and organized.

6 Simple Ways to Organize Your Makeup

Nail Polishes on the Wall Recently, I mounted a smaller shelf set in order to make proper storage for all of my daughter's nail polishes. It gives her powder room the ultimate feminine-feel. It’s a great way to see all of the colors you own, too! Try to organize it so that you don’t have bottles in front of each other. My daughter likes to categorize her polishes by brand, but you can also organize by color.

Jewelry Boxes Another great alternative is storing some of your makeup in beautiful boxes. They can go on your dresser or by the bathroom sink. This is especially ideal when you've lost space in your primary makeup spot.

Cute Mugs & glasses Have you noticed how so many kitchen companies have “upped” their mug-game lately? Every time I go shopping, it’s hard to not pick up yet another ceramic cup with cute designs or adorable sayings. There are only so many that we need in my household! Lucky enough, Lady Marielle suggests uses cute mugs as a way to store makeup brushes. Genius!

If you want an elegant look, try glass or apothecary containers with approximately 1-2" of clear or colored vase filler at the bottom. The larger the brushes, the more filler you will need to support the brushes. (See above photo.)

Mason Jars Mason jars are the ultimate tool for organization. If you browse Pinterest, you’ll see endless posts on DIYs and crafts using the 16-ounce glass wonders. I think they come in really handy for makeup storage. I like putting them side by side to feature some of my best beauty tools like sponge blenders and manicure sets.

Kitchen Tools Got any food accessories that are taking up too much room in your kitchen? I use these clouded jars as storage for my cotton swabs and cotton balls.

Acrylic Organizers - Stylish organizers have ample compartments to fit your lipstick, brushes, compacts and more. Adrienne at AdrienneRoyale, has dedicated an entire shelving unit of cosmetic containers to keep her makeup perfectly organized! I love it!

Acrylic organizers are easy to clean, too. Use a cleaning solution for eyeglasses or camera lenses, and a microfiber cloth. For stubborn, hard-to-reach nooks and crannies, use mild soapy water and rinse well.
